Introduction

Environmental pollution refers to the introduction of harmful contaminants into the natural environment, disrupting its normal functioning and posing risks to human health and ecosystems.

Air pollution arises from emissions of pollutants like particulate matter and gases from vehicles, industries, and burning of fossil fuels, leading to respiratory diseases and climate change impacts.

Water pollution results from industrial discharge, sewage, and agricultural runoff, contaminating water bodies and threatening aquatic life and human health.

Soil pollution occurs through the accumulation of hazardous chemicals and waste products, affecting agricultural productivity and groundwater quality.

Marine pollution involves the deposition of plastics, chemicals, and oil spills in oceans, harming marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Noise pollution disrupts natural soundscapes, impacting human health and wildlife behavior.

Thermal pollution alters water temperatures, affecting aquatic habitats. Nuclear hazards from accidents or waste disposal pose long-term environmental and health risks. Solid waste management and disaster management play crucial roles in mitigating pollution impacts. Individuals contribute to pollution prevention through sustainable practices and awareness.

 Understanding these aspects equips students to address environmental challenges and advocate for sustainable practices in their communities and beyond.

Objectives

After going through this unit you will be able to:

A. explain the Definition, Cause, effects and control measures of:

B. describe solid waste management;
