A library is the most optimal place to focus, its quiet and so many students keeps you motivated and encourage you to focus more on your studies. Group study with friends might not help that much as there are so many distractions.

While you are preparing for your exams always make small notes or highlights of topics you have studied they help you to keep track record of your progress and also helps in revision or when you're teaching to your friend or classmate. Keep your notes short & precise.
