In this unit, we delve into soil microbiology, examining the diverse distribution of soil microorganisms and the factors that influence their populations, such as soil type, moisture, pH, and organic matter. We explore the rhizosphere effect, highlighting the unique interactions between plant roots and microbial communities that enhance nutrient uptake and plant health.

The unit also covers the roles of soil microbes in decomposition, mineralization, and recycling processes, which are vital for nutrient cycling and soil fertility. Additionally, we investigate bioremediation techniques that utilize soil microbes to detoxify and restore contaminated soils, and the microbial solubilization of phosphates, which improves soil nutrient availability and supports plant growth.
