Introduction

In this unit, we will delve into the dynamics and management of geological hazards, specifically earthquakes, landslides, and volcanoes. Earthquakes, resulting from the sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust, cause significant ground shaking and structural damage, highlighting the need for earthquake-resistant construction and emergency preparedness. Landslides, the downward movement of rock and soil on slopes, are often triggered by factors such as heavy rainfall, earthquakes, or human activities, necessitating effective land-use planning and slope stabilization measures. Volcanoes, with their explosive eruptions and lava flows, pose threats to nearby communities and environments, requiring robust monitoring systems, hazard mapping, and evacuation plans. By understanding these natural phenomena, we can develop strategies to mitigate their impacts and enhance community resilience.
