Introduction

In this unit, we introduce the fundamental methods for treating industrial wastes, focusing on techniques to reduce their volume and strength to minimize environmental impact. We explore the processes of neutralization, which involves adjusting the pH of acidic or alkaline wastes to neutral levels, and equalization, where waste streams are blended to achieve uniformity in composition and flow. Proportioning, the controlled distribution of waste streams for optimal treatment efficiency, is also examined. These methods are essential for managing industrial waste effectively, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and protecting ecosystems and public health. Understanding these treatment techniques is crucial for developing sustainable industrial waste management practices.
